TOURING BROADWAY SHOWS
Visit Broadway in 2018, the heart of the theater world! Located in New York City's Theatre District, more than 40 legendary venues attract audiences from all around the world. Broadway theater shows are often believed to represent the highest level of commercial theater in the English-speaking world.
Although early theater in New York City focused mostly on ballad operas and replicating Shakespeare plays, in time, plays and musicals became the entertainment of choice. Popular early shows included A Trip to Chinatown (which ran for an impressive performances) and Little Johnny Jones, which gave us the infamous song, "Give My Regards to Broadway."
In the early 1900s, the Broadway we know today began to form; theaters nestled along Broadway began to install white-light, electric signs outside the venues, spawning the nickname "The Great White Way." Its longest-running titles included Lightnin' and Abie's Irish Rose, both of which had more than 1,000 performances.
But Broadway has come a long way since then. Today, the district's longest-running Broadway musical is Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, which celebrated its 10,000th performance in February 2012. The musical is still running today.
The shows on Broadway have evolved, too; these days, there are family-friendly musicals such as Disney'sThe Lion King or the hilarious religious satire The Book of Mormon. Whatever you seek, whether Broadway shows on tour or a Broadway theater guide, find all your ticketing needs here.
